Lifeboat

Come Hell or high water
I’ll build me a lifeboat
I’ll set me adrift
In a song I re-wrote

Our boat was gilded
With dead weight in tow
Our planks were all rotted
Should I cue the maestro?

Now bubbles blossom in the bow
And water glistens in the stern
My notes can’t fix that prow
It’s too late; we overturn.

You’re the tall drink of water
That poisoned my sea.
I’ve drowned in my song
And must write to love you
Again.
